Holistic architecture

Holism represents the idea about wholeness. It indicates that natural systems should be viewed as wholes, which is more than just a collection of parts. A human being is a whole with all its functional processes in a physical frame. A single word, health, defines the equilibrium of all those processes. Every architectural structure is like a human organism – it is healthy, when all of its parts are in harmony. It should also be in proportion to the surroundings and energy efficient. Good functional organization should result in fluid space connections and at the same time each interior should be profoundly designed  to meet their users needs.

A healthy space affects the physical and emotional well being. However, every person on this planet has their unique experience of reality and therefore an individual experience of space. One enclosed or open structure evokes completely different sensations for two people.  Something that has healing effects on one, might disturb the other. It is possible, that even if all conventional aspects of quality architecture are fulfilled, one would still feel himself uncomfortable in a specific space. Over time this would interfere optimal daily life. But, how do you create a bespoke space for an individual? How do you accomplish beneficial and positive interaction between the space and its users?

There is no typical solution or universal answer to these questions.

For that reason, great attention is paid to develop the relationship between the architect and the client. One of the most important aspects of this relationship is to learn how the client experiences the space. This discovery is to be embraced since it will be the starting point of the design. Openness towards various ideas and mutual trust helps to maintain constructive dialog and discussion throughout all design stages. Holistic architecture is also about freedom and fun, advocating that all parties involved should be equally enjoying the process. Creating spaces is creating possibilities.
